Courtesy Call By International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)
Earlier today, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor.
The team comprised of;
1. Mr. Philippe Metzger - Secretary General of the International Electrotechnical Commission,
2. Ing. Prof. Amevi Acakpovi - President of the IEC National Committee of Ghana,
3. Mr. Francois Ahoti - Regional Representative of the IEC in Africa and
4. Ms. Joyce Okore - Secretary of IEC National Committee of Ghana.
The Secretary General of IEC acknowledged Ghana’s commitment to contributing to safer and greener world. He recognized Ghana’s IEC National Committee status as an Associate Member since 2021 and commended Ghana for the adherence to standards.
Prof. Acakpovi commended Ghana for adopting 637 IEC standards, the highest in West Africa and reiterated that standards support everything from power systems to solar PV safety, helping to improve the quality of infrastructure and industrial products across the country.
On behalf of the President of the Republic of the Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, the Minister for Energy and Green Transition , Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, welcomed the team and commended them for working towards standardization which has helped with safety and certainty. He assured the team of Ghana’s continuous collaboration and the ministry’s support to IEC.
The IEC is a global, not-for-profit membership organization, whose work underpins quality infrastructure and international trade in electrical and electronic goods.
IEC facilitates technical innovation, affordable infrastructure development, efficient and sustainable energy access, smart urbanization and transportation systems, climate change mitigation, and increases the safety of people and the environment.
