Energy Minister cuts sod for GOIL/SMB Bitumen Plant Project

The Minister for Energy, John Peter-Amewu on Thursday commended GOIL for being the first indigenous Oil Marketing Company to construct a Bitumen Plant for storage of raw bitumen for road construction in the country.

According to the Minister, most major road contractors import the product in bitumen containers from abroad, adding that GOIL’s objective to be the major supplier of bitumen and the producer of the best PMB for the country to reduce importation of PMB into the country is commendable.

“Government will in this regard support an effort of GOIL in helping Government deliver good,  quality and durable roads”, he stated.

Hon. Amewu said this when he cut the sod for the GOIL Company/Societe Multinationale de Bitumes (SMB) Plant Project on behalf of President Nana Addo  in Tema.

The Plant will mill raw bitumen and polymers to produce PMB, and Bitumen Emulsions for road construction in Ghana.

“I will like to congratulate GOIL and PMB for this bold innovative venture which is a classical example of the potential cooperation in development worthy of emulation in the ECOWAS sub region.” He noted.

The total capacity of the Plant will be 8,000 metric tons, estimated to cost 35 million US dollars scheduled for completion in two years.
