Ghana’s Energy Minister Delivers Africa’s Regional Report at ISA Assembly

The 8th Session of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Assembly opened this week in New Delhi, India.

Participating in the high-level event, Ghana’s Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Jinapor , serving as Vice President of the ISA Africa Region delivered the regional report on behalf of Africa.

In his address, he underscored a striking paradox revealed through ongoing deliberations: although Africa holds nearly 60 percent of the world’s best solar resources, the continent attracts only 2 percent of global clean energy investment.

He further highlighted that an estimated 600 million Africans still live without electricity, with the situation being even more severe in rural communities where about 75 percent of the population lacks access.

Describing the situation as unacceptable, he called for a renewed and collective effort to reverse these trends. He emphasized the need for stronger partnerships, innovative financing mechanisms, and rapid deployment of solar technologies to unlock Africa’s enormous renewable energy potential.

The Minister urged member states and global partners to work together to ensure universal energy access across the continent, stressing that real change is both urgent and achievable
