Minister Engages Electrical Contractors on Strengthening Industry Standards

The Minister of Energy and Green Transition. Hon. John Jinapor, has held a meeting with the leadership of the Ghana Electrical Contractors Association (GECA) to discuss challenges confronting the electrical contracting industry and explore collaborative solutions.

During the engagement, GECA proposed the introduction of a national policy that would require only certified electrical contractors to undertake construction-related electrical works. According to the Association, such a policy is essential to improving safety, reliability, and adherence to professional standards in the sector.

In response, the Minister directed his technical team to develop a comprehensive roadmap to address the issues raised. He noted that when effectively implemented, the proposed policy has the potential to save lives and reduce the incidence of electrical fires and property damage caused by poor wiring and the use of substandard materials.

He further assured GECA that the Ministry will continue to work closely with the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), the Energy Commission, and GECA to strengthen regulations and improve service standards across the industry.

The Minister expressed appreciation to the GECA leadership for their engagement and recognition, emphasizing that continued collaboration is key to building a safer and more efficient electrical industry for the country.
